Ch one Blog Post: Jack hersom

"Introduce yourself. I want to know about you as a person and as a learner. Tell me the ways that you learn best. What has your experience with technology been like up to this point? Cite examples from both your personal life and your educational life." Your blog should be at least 3 well written paragraphs long.

Being brought up in a family where both of my parents were involved in the school system, my mother a Jr. High Principal, and my father a H.S. Heath Teacher, I have had some kind of contact with schools for as long as I can remember. One of the reasons why I like school and was able to have a positive experience with it was because of my parents being teachers and helping me along the way. Some of my earliest memories I have of school start in Kindergarten where I received a time-out for laughing too much. I was pretty upset when this happened because I thought that my parents would be mad at me. To my surprise at the time, they were not. Looking back on the situation, it was not a serious offence. The time-out came from an older lady, Mrs. Bradford, who was mean and ready for retirement. This event taught me that school is something that you need to embrace, enjoy, and have fun with, or else it will be miserable. Even though I got the time-out, it was worth it because the incident stuck with me all the way up through, and has served as a reminder to always have fun with school.

My experience with technology up to this point in my life has been somewhat limited. I have very basic understanding as far as computers go. Part of this can be attributed to the fact that my 7th grade year was the first year that the state of Maine outfitted students with laptops. Because I was part of the first class that got the laptops when they were initially issued, the training and instruction that was given then to what is given now is much more in depth. My mom tells me some of the activities on laptops that goes on at her Jr. High, and they are more much more different and in depth then the activities and uses that I had in Jr. High. These are as simple as using laptops in all of the classes, compared to when I was in Jr. High; it was a tool that was basically limited to typing on in English class. Granted, some of changes can be attributed to technological advances, but some is the inexperience with the laptops for both students and instructors.

Seeing how my knowledge in technology is pretty limited, this class fits in well with being an education major. I am excited to learn all of the new things out there in terms of technology because I have noticed from my limited knowledge, that technology does make things a lot easier. Aside from making work and organization easier for the teacher, it can enhance the learning for the children, making learning fun and enjoyable. Getting kids to enjoy school and keeping them focused is the overall goal of a teacher in my eyes. Because the children that you teach will one day run the country, it is important to keep them in school without losing interest. Educating them to the highest level comes with the use of technology. I am excited to see how technology can enhance the classroom atmosphere.

- I apologize for the other two posts on my blog. I didn't realize at first that is was on a black background so I initially published two in black text. I do not know how do remove the post from the blog yet.
